Is SNN controversial? PDF Print E-mail

Does SNN's iconography offend everyone on the Left?
That's pretty much the message I got from an exchange of views of the great UK left wing anti-Jihadi blog Harrys Place.

It all started innocuoulsy enough, with a post by regular HP contributor Dave T entitled "How to Beat Both the BNP and the Islamists".

I think that what is needed is an antifascist campaign that combines fighting the neo Nazi far right with the Islamist far right. I’m convinced that this is the only way to defeat both. Part of the reason - not the only one - that the BNP has risen is that the cordon sanitaire that surrounded far Right thought has been fatally compromised by the accommodation between the far Left and the Islamist far Right. Organisations which say pretty outrageous and extreme things have got op eds in the Guardian and have cultivated links with Labour (and LibDem and occasionally Tory) MPs. This allows the BNP to say: “We’re the only ones who are standing up for *you*”. Both groups share a common racist hatred of Jews - including Holocaust denial - but yet the Islamists have been given a pass on this by large sections of the Left. That lowers the bar as to what constitute acceptable political discourse. As the BNP pursues its ‘thug in a suit’ rebranding strategy, it actually allows them to pose as the ‘less extreme’ of the two.

All very good, and very much in line with the way many of us on the Right think (except for our very own mirror-images of Vanessa's loonies, yes Ann Coulter I'm looking at you).

So I decided to weigh in with my very own tale of cross-political woe.

Jihadi murders 13 year old with Axe - Israel Policy Forum "He had it coming". PDF Print E-mail

Something led me to the Israel Policy Forum webiste this morning and caused me to look at their post about the murder by a West Bank Arab of a little child. His attack killed one child aged 13 and injured a 7 year old.

So how on earth can a supposedly pro-Peace "Jewish" think tank cover this story.

Well......

After the dry report culled from Ma'ariv (but not linked to) they decide the next important thing to point out is the supposed ideology of the town the children lived in. Of course the town is Bat Ayin and is full of (brace yourselves) SETTLERS (say it quickly and while spitting please).

Even better, this town, back in 2002 actually gave rise to some "extremists" who were arrested and put in prision. Here's what Ma'ariv wrote and the IPF choose to highlight:

In 2002 a group called the "Bat Ayin underground" was revealed after two residents were arrested, Yarden Morag and Shlomi Dvir, when they placed a bomb near a girls' school in East Jerusalem. A third resident, Ofer Gamliel, was arrested three days later. The three were convicted and sentenced to 12 and 15 years in prison. However, in recent years the settlement members have been careful not to break the law for ideological reasons, after a long period of being considered extremists.

And your point IPF and Ma'ariv? That a child aged 13 and another aged 7 come from an "extreme" town so are fair game for axe wielding Jihadis. OK, I think we can see the cut of your jib.

Killer Lord Ahmed and the sentence for dangerous driving PDF Print E-mail

I mentioned something in this week's show about the average sentence for Dangerous Driving in the UK being more like 10 to 11 months than the 12 weeks that Lord Ahmed received.

So I thought I'd better back that up.

If you are so inclined you can go searching on the web and find the following document (links to a PDF):

"the Sentence THE SENTENCING GUIDELINES NEWSLETTER January 2006"

If one has a bit of a rummage around in that august journal one finds the following table:

It is, thank heaven, difficult if not impossible for the modern European to fully appreciate the force which fanaticism exercises among an ignorant, warlike and Oriental population. Several generations have elapsed since the nations of the West have drawn the sword in religious controversy, and the evil memories of the gloomy past have soon faded in the strong, clear light of Rationalism and human sympathy. Indeed it is evident that Christianity, however degraded and distorted by cruelty and intolerance, must always exert a modifying influence on men's passions, and protect them from the more violent forms of fanatical fever, as we are protected from smallpox by vaccination. But the Mahommedan religion increases, instead of lessening, the fury of intolerance. It was originally propagated by the sword, and ever since, its votaries have been subject, above the people of all other creeds, to this form of madness. In a moment the fruits of patient toil, the prospects of material prosperity, the fear of death itself, are flung aside. The more emotional Pathans are powerless to resist. All rational considerations are forgotten. Seizing their weapons, they become Ghazis--as dangerous and as sensible as mad dogs: fit only to be treated as such. While the more generous spirits among the tribesmen become convulsed in an ecstasy of religious bloodthirstiness, poorer and more material souls derive additional impulses from the influence of others, the hopes of plunder and the joy of fighting. Thus whole nations are roused to arms. Thus the Turks repel their enemies, the Arabs of the Soudan break the British squares, and the rising on the Indian frontier spreads far and wide. In each case civilisation is confronted with militant Mahommedanism. The forces of progress clash with those of reaction. The religion of blood and war is face to face with that of peace. Luckily the religion of peace is usually the better armed.
